When all the people were being baptised, Jesus was baptised too. (Luke 3:21)
Jesus begins his earthly ministry by being baptised by John in the Jordan. Why was Jesus baptised with John’s baptism of repentance? Does the Son of God need to repent, or is there something more to it?
You would be very welcome to join us at our 10:30am service of Holy Communion in St Andrew, Cuffley, or at 8:30am for a service of Holy Communion in St Thomas, Northaw, this Sunday, as we look together at Jesus’ baptism.
The 10:30am Sunday morning service will be taking place simultaneously online and in-person at St Andrew. Streaming for the 10:30am service will start at 10:25am, and can be accessed directly via Facebook or YouTube, found on our website, and is advertised on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
If you encounter problems with viewing the service via Facebook (or YouTube) please follow the link for YouTube (or Facebook) instead.
Lent reading
For our Lent devotions this year, I’m suggesting that we read “Forty Women: Unseen women of the Bible from Eden to Easter”. There are short devotions for each day in Lent, and we’ll also be using it to help shape our Sunday sermons in Lent. The author, Ros Clarke, is also giving our revived Rachel Bradgate Lecture, below, and copies will be available for sale that evening. You can also let the vicar know if you would like a copy (chris@norcuff.com / 07446 516945).
The Rachel Bradgate Lecture
After an interval of at least 140 years, the Rachel Bradgate sermon is being revived as the Rachel Bradgate Lecture. This will be on Wednesday 23rd February at 7pm in St Thomas, entitled “Why Women Matter So Much To God”. For more details, and to book free tickets, please see our website, or use the sign-up sheet at the back of the churches.
Luke’s Gospel
This Sunday, we are continuing our look through Luke’s Gospel. To help with that, we have some copies available which include space for notes. These are available in both churches for a donation of £1. Why not get one to bring on Sunday mornings, and to write in, as we read it together?
Monday Morning Service
On Monday mornings at 9am in St Thomas, during term time, we hold our Monday Morning Service. This is a service focussed on the whole school community, but is open to everyone. This service is a great way for the church family and school community can build relationships. We’d love you to join us on Monday mornings.
