The 10:30 service is back in St Andrew.
many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. (Ezra 2:12, NIV)
As the foundation of the new temple was laid, some shouted with joy while others wept. The great temple built by Solomon had been destroyed just 50 years before, and some older people remembered it, and wept when they saw what was going to replace it. As we return to St Andrew's, after a break of 6 months. I suspect that we do so with mixed emotions: hope and anticipation for the future, perhaps along with sadness at what we miss about what used to be there. I hope that you can join us this Sunday as we see how the temple points us to Jesus, and that our buildings, and us, are to bring him praise and glory.
You would be very welcome at our 10:30am service in St Andrew, Cuffley or at 9am for a service of Holy Communion in St Thomas, Northaw, this Sunday.
The 10:30am Sunday morning service will also be streamed. This will start at 10:25am, and can be accessed directly via YouTube or Facebook, found on our website, and is advertised on our YouTube channel and Facebook page.
If you encounter problems with viewing the service via Facebook (or YouTube) please follow the link for YouTube (or Facebook) instead.
Children’s Church
Our children’s church meets this Sunday morning in the Undercroft. Children are welcome from 10:20, and will join us in St Thomas towards the end of the service.
Harvest
Next Sunday is our Harvest Service. We will be joined by the choir from Northaw School as part of the service. We will also be collecting donations for the Broxbourne Foodbank. They are in particular need of: tins of meat, fruit, vegetables and fish; tins of rice pudding and custard; squash, UHT juice and UHT milk.
Harvest Lunch
After the service next week, please stay for our Harvest Lunch. There is a sign-up sheet available at the back of St Andrew’s. There’s no charge for this, but we would welcome donations to help cover the cost.
Vacancies
Following our annual meetings we have a vacancy for two churchwardens and one representatives on the Deanery Synod (and a treasurer). If you’d like to know more about them (without any commitment), please talk to Chris.
Rotas
We very much value and appreciate all the different people that welcome and help with refreshments, and the different voices that we hear from the front. We always welcome new people to these roles, even if infrequently, and we have some spaces at the moment. If you don’t already help, and this would be something you would like to do, please talk to Chris.
We’re currently using self-signup for the various rotas: blank rotas will be pinned up at the back of St Thomas. If you are one of our regular welcomers, readers, pray-ers, communion assistants, or refreshment helpers, please do sign up where you are able to.
Rotas for services in October and November are now available.
Sponsor a chair?
Would you be able to sponsor a new chair for St Andrew’s? Each chair will cost us around £80, and we would be very grateful for any donations towards the new chairs. You can give in the usual ways, please mark your donation as ‘Chairs’.
60 Years of St Andrew’s
The current St Andrew’s building was consecrated on 30th November, 1965. To mark and celebrate 60 years of the building, we are planning a range of events during the year, culminating in a service on 30th November 2025.
